Appraisals & Estate Valuations

Personal Property Appraisals for Estates, Division & Selected Items

Bluegrass provides personal property appraisal and valuation services for estates, legal or fiduciary needs, property division, individual items, and selected specialty categories such as coins and jewelry.

Formal valuations and practical estate experience

Appraisal work should be grounded in both research and market experience.

Bluegrass brings years of auction, research, and estate experience to the task of evaluating personal property. That experience is especially useful when a seller, executor, family, attorney, or fiduciary needs to understand value across a broad range of items.

Not every question requires a formal written appraisal. Some clients first need an auction evaluation or general sale-planning conversation. When a formal appraisal is required for estate, tax, legal, fiduciary, or division purposes, we can discuss the appropriate scope of work.

Range of Appraisal Services

Taxable Estates & Estate Filing

Estates that will be filed with the IRS, a court, or another legal entity may require a personal property valuation. We help define the valuation need and the categories involved.

Property Division

A qualified appraisal can help simplify equitable distribution among heirs or support distributions described in a will or estate plan.

Coins

We have experience with United States coins and many foreign issues, including authentication, assessment, organization, and sale-market perspective.

Jewelry

We can evaluate a wide range of jewelry and use a licensed gemologist to appraise higher-end pieces where that level of review is appropriate.

Individual Items

Selected objects, artwork, furniture, silver, collectibles, or other items may need appraisal or sale evaluation apart from a full estate project.

Collections

Collections often require organization, category knowledge, and a clear valuation method before a seller or fiduciary can make decisions.

Appraisal or auction evaluation?

The first step is deciding what kind of valuation you need.

A formal appraisal is not always the same thing as a sale estimate or auction evaluation. If your goal is estate filing, property division, tax support, or legal documentation, a formal appraisal may be appropriate. If your goal is to sell, the first step may be a review of whether the property is suitable for auction and what sale strategy makes sense.

This page is written as general service information. Legal, tax, and fiduciary requirements should be reviewed with the appropriate professional advisor.

Appraisal Consultation Process

Define the purpose

We begin by clarifying whether the appraisal is for estate filing, property division, legal or fiduciary use, sale planning, insurance discussion, or another need.

Identify the property and scope

We determine whether the project involves a full estate, selected rooms, individual items, collections, jewelry, coins, or another defined group of property.

Review, research, and valuation

The property is reviewed and researched according to the agreed scope, using relevant category knowledge and sale-market experience.

Report or recommendation

When a formal appraisal is appropriate, the result is documented according to the project requirements. When sale planning is the goal, we discuss recommended next steps.
